Just finished a solid 9 days birding in the Top End, focussing on the Top End
specialties. Recorded 196 species, with highlights and general locations as
follows:
East Point: Large-tailed Nightjar, Rainbow Pitta, Rose-crowned Fruit-Dove
Nightcliff Mangroves: White-breasted Whistler, Broad-billed Flycatcher, Yellow
White-eye
Buffalo Creek: Sanderling, Red/Great Knot, Lesser/Greater Sand-Plover, Terek
Sandpiper, Grey Plover plus others
Darwin Botanic Gardens: nesting Barking Owl
Pine Creek: Hooded Parrots
Fergusson River: Brown Quail, Bar-breasted Honeyeater, Northern Rosella,
Black-tailed Treecreeper
Buntine Highway: Black-breasted Buzzard, Little Woodswallow
Victoria River: Lilac-crowned Fairy-Wren, White-quilled Rock-Pigeon
Timber Creek: Oriental Plover, Red-backed Kingfisher,
Gouldian/Star/Long-tailed/Masked Finch, Chestnut-backed Button-Quail,
Buff-sided Robin
Central Arnhem Rd: Black-chinned Honeyeater
Kakadu: Red Goshawk, Chestnut-quilled Rock-Pigeon, Banded Fruit-Dove, Sandstone
Shrike-Thrush, White-lined Honeyeater
Adelaide River: Mangrove Golden Whistler, Arafura Fantail
Palmerston STW: Mangrove Robin, Mangrove Fantail, Yellow White-eye
