I have just returned from a 2-week, 5,900 km drive from Melbourne to
Tibooburra, Noccundra, Innanminka, Cameron Corner, Lyndhurst, Adelaide and
return. The trip had two purposes, one to see the Cooper Creek Country
looking green/with dry country birds and the other to try for the third time
to see Letter-winged Kites on the Strzelecki Track. I was close to being
stopped by rain on a few occasions but unlike some at the time of this
posting, not really affected.

Everywhere there was a body of water, there seemed to be hundreds of
Pelicans, Egrets, Spoonbills, Nankeen Night Herons, Gull-billed Terns and
thousands of Cormorants. Away from the water, there were Spotted Harriers
in good numbers, Fairy Martins at every culvert, Crimson Chats, Budgerigars,
Woodswallows and both Songlarks. I managed to see some nice species: Black
Falcon, Pied and Black Honeyeater, Bourke's Parrot, Orange Chat, possible
juvenile Black-eared Cuckoo, Plum-headed Finch, Gibberbird, Letter-winged
Kite, Eyrean Grasswren, Flock Bronzewing, Thick-billed Grasswren, Cinnamon
Quail-thrush, Chestnut-breasted Whiteface and Barbary Dove. I dipped on
Grey Grasswren where the Adventure Way crosses Cooper Creek. I did not see a
single Pratincole or Banded Lapwing.

I have a 7-page trip report with more details. Please contact me directly
and I will E-mail it to you.

Regards,

Gil Langfield
