Thu 29 Jul Wedge-tailed Eagle Mowbray River, near Port Douglas
A large grouping of raptors was seen in a paddock being worked by a
tractor just south of the Mowbray River bridge (right opposite the
active Osprey nest) at 11:35am. A single adult Wedge-tailed Eagle was on
the ground in the paddock (a very uncommon species at Port Douglas) &
was in the company of 2 White-bellied Sea-Eagles, 2 Brahminy Kites, a
Whistling Kite, 3 Black Kites & a pair of Ospreys (presumably the
nesting pair). This is a very interesting mix of species all interacting
at the same spot & it was difficult to see what had attracted them all
to this field as I wasn't in a position to stop - the tractor must have
disturbed some prey.
