David and anyone else visiting the Tablelands,
"Spending three weeks on the Atherton Tablelands I never found Brolgas anywhere in quantity .." Your are always welcome to contact me. Some are put off by the fact that I try to make a living as a guide but I am free with much information.

Michaels comments on Broomfield swamp brought back many memories for me also..................my wife and I were there last year touring with the caravan, using Mila Mila as a base, and decided to go out to Broomfield after reading about the incoming Brolgas and Sarus Cranes roosting there in the evening in some of the local promotional literature put out to promote the Atherton Tablelands.

Whilst waiting at the laybye site the temperature grew progressively colder, and I kept nipping back into the car to find extra clothing to put on................then as the sky darkened with the onset of dusk a honking could be heard and then there they were..............wheeling across the sky dropping at all angles, honking, more and more by the minute, just where all the birds come from is anyones guess ( Spending three weeks on the Atherton Tablelands I never found Brolgas anywhere is quantity but here they were in their hundreds if not thousands...................fascinating.)

I kept snapping away until the light said...enough.................Colder but with a warm glow in my heart I climbed back into the car...........what a wonderful experience.

David Simpson.
