Ah, that brings back fond memories.

Poor Ange had to tramp up the streams near Arthur's Pass - and back - with not a skerrick of a view for me of a Blue Duck.

But I highly recommend the Punakiki Tavern as a base for pleasant walks (in summer!) and Bullers Road as eerie at night (beware of the flash floods!).

And Kairoura for what must be one of the easiest pelagic outing in the world (6 or 7 ticks for me from memory).
