Hi Mike,
Well, I'm happy to ask them to comment. Simon?
It may well be that they picked it up off Birding -Aus but I can't
imagine
that they wouldn't credit anyone if they knew. On the pages it
mentions
Frank O'Connor a lot with thanks to him so they may have credited it
accordingly to Frank? The whole point as I understand it though is
to get
the information out, not deny 'credit' from anyone who should or
shouldn't
be credited. I'm not sure that the 'credit' is so important anyway.
The
requirement is to get information out; no one I know worries
whether they
get 'credit' for reporting something do they? Anyone??
I'm also on Birding-Aus and my phone SMS bleeped with the news
before a
message from Birding-Aus came through, (on the laptop, which co-
incidentally
was on my lap with the i-phone on the table), soon afterwards. (As
Tony
wasn't on Birding-Aus at the time that was mission accomplished
anyway);-)
I think if you (or Russell/Birding-Aus or whoever) "wants
crediting" (and
do people really want crediting) then simply have a word with Simon
Mustoe
and I'm sure from my limited dealings with him (sending a story or
two to
Wildiaries) he'll be happy to provide appropriate credits. Part of
the very
best features I see on Bird-O are to link all relevant parties and
make it
one universal system with separate services such as SMS and NOT take
anything away from individual web sites. Indeed it's the individual
sites
involvement which will make the whole of these sites better and more
functional. Again, I'm happy to stand corrected or Simon can
comment if he
wants to clarify my limited understanding.
If I hadn't got the SMS and simply read it on Birding-Aus later I
would
have had no need to write to Birding-Aus to say well done, (as that
is what
it's there for anyway;-) ). Either way I would still have been able
to tell
Tony it was back;-)
Given I signed up for the SMS service and then was told to
unsubscribe and
I received this for nothing, I was most impressed;-)
I guess on the basis of this note I need to thank Ian May for seeing
"hundreds of Princess Parrots" 100 km south of where Phil Gregory,
Don
Hadden and myself spent a week in June. Thanks Ian!
Very best wishes and thanks for your post too.

Ah Alan, but did Bird-O tell you how they heard about it?
I'm interested to know because at least at one time they weren't in
the
habit of crediting their sources nor acknowledging them. What are
the odds
that it was my note on Birding-Aus? Information out is one thing.
Information in quite another.
