Wed 21 Jul Northern Pintail Erskine Lakes , Western Australia
Adult female Northern Pintail at Erskine Lakes. [Moderator notes:
Erskine Lakes are in Mandurah 80km south of Perth. When you are in
Mandurah, go over the Mandurah Bypass bridge (over the Mandurah estuary)
and take the 1st left: Sticks Boulevard, then take the first left again:
Abbottswood pwy. Drive to the end of this road and the small lakes are
visible on your right. The bird can also fly to another small lake just
to the south of these lakes.]

Mon 19 Jul Pallid Cuckoo 38 ks north of Bordertown, South Australia
A very early Pallid Cuckoo seen on the road from Comet Bore to
Bordertown, SA. Fantailed Cuckoo heard also 5-10ks south of area.

Sun 18 Jul Spotted Whistling-Duck Wenlock River (near Weipa),
Queensland
A single adult, presumably female with a very young chick found in a
landlocked lagoon near the Wenlock River on 18 July 2010. They were
resting along the bank for a while then ventured into the water where
they began feeding on the lilly flowers. I have come across SWD in the
past with chicks, but a few years ago and the deatils are now sketchy.
The birding atlas I have doesn't show any July breeding records.

Wed 14 Jul Red-bellied Pitta Chilli Beach / Portland Roads (Iron
Range National Park, Queensland
A rare sighting for this time of year, a Red Bellied Pitta seen on 14
July 2010 whilst spot lighting at about 10pm at the last rainforest
stretch on the way to the Chilli Beach / Portland Roads intersection.
Excellent views were had and a few photos taken before it flew off into
the bush. Also found the same night was a single Red backed Button
quail, also on the road.
