While I appreciate the sentiment and the concern with a decision to remove the birds from the wild, I think we must give some credit to the recovery team that they would not take this action if they felt there was any other alternative. The fact of the OBP's ecology - an annual migration across Bass Strait and a reliance on a severely depleted coastal ecosystem for their overwintering habitat, means they are highly at risk with their population at such low numbers. As difficult as the decision undoubtedly was I am disinclined to second guess it.
