Published sightings for the week ending 13 Jun 2010.
Wed 9 Jun Rufous Owl Townsville - Palmetum Gardens
Solitary Rufous Owl observed for about half an hour at the Townsville
Palmetum Gardens near the Black Hawk Helicopter crash memorial. It was
holding last night's dinner (Brush-tailed Possum).and occasionally it
would take a break for a further snack. It did not appear phased by our
presence at all, nor by the many other visitors who came to see what we
were looking at. We did manage to get some photographs though, before
leaving it as we found it. Not a common bird, Rufous Owls have been seen
periodically around this location.

Black-chinned Honeyeater Garbutt - Townsville
2 Black-chinned Honeyeaters seen behind Bunnings Warehouse, Cnr
Duckworth Street and Dalrymple Road, Garbutt at about mid-day Wednesday
09/06/2010 (First time sighting of this species here for me over say the
last 15 years). These birds were feeding high in the canopy of the
Eucalypts beside Louisa Creek and adjoining the relocated nest of the
renown "Bunnings White-bellied Sea-Eagles", who incidentally did not
appear to be in the vicinity of that nest area.
