Harvey,
Have just returned from the Alice. We spent 10 hours over 2 days unsuccessfully looking for Grey Honeyeater on Hamilton Downs Rd (adjacent to Kunoth Well), also failed to find it at Olive Pink Gardens. The gardens are your best bet for Western Bowerbird, easy to see there. Within an hour of arriving at Santa Theresa Rd we had Spinifexbird (2), Rufous-crowned Emu-wren (2), and wonderful views of a party of 6 Dusky Grasswren next to where we parked the car (?32 km from the airport roundabout). We got Pied Honeyeater on Hamilton Downs road (along with 35 Little Button-quail over 2 days), probable Slaty-backed Thornbill there as well, but certain sightings of Slaty-backed at the Old Telegraph Station . Our only sighting of Grey-headed H/E was at Ormiston Gorge and we didn't see any wedgebill, quailthrush or whiteface close to Alice.
I'd be heading down the Santa Theresa Rd!!
