Hi Jim,

Following Greg's advice about the GS Parrots, we can add:

The migratory Black-winged Monarchs and Red-bellied Pittas are more
conveniently found at Varirata National Park in May-Aug. This park is an easy
45-60 minutes drive East of Port Moresby. The advantage of looking for them
here is that you can also enjoy the Raggiana Birds of Paradise, amongst many
others. Most Cape York birds 'specialties' can be seen much more easily here
(but GS Parrots and WS Honeyeaters don't occur).

White-streaked Honeyeaters may be found in eucalypt forest around the Iron
Range NP. But they appear to be moving south. A BANQ outing last month found
them around Cooktown. Another visitor to Cooktown last week
reported seeing 'hundreds' between Lakeland and Cooktown.

Fuel is available all the way up the Cape but the price steadily rises as you
go up.

Have fun and let us know how you get on.

Cheers,

Dominic Chaplin
