I popped up there last year to unsuccessfully look for the bird. At the time
I got talking to one of the locals there who mentioned that it has been
there for at least 2 years, and that there are actually 2 of them.

Hello all..as I was passing through Bulahdelah, NSW yesterday, I thought I
would stop and look for the Radjah Shelduck reported recently (and in recent
years?). It wasn't hard to find on the riverbank in front of the hotel. The
bird is remarkably tame and allows a close approach. Because of this, and
the fact that it is well out of normal range, I can't help wondering if it
is indeed tickable or possibly an escapee from some collection. Of course,
wild birds do tame up if they discover an artificial food source, and ducks
are capable of turning up anywhere. Does anyone have any comments on the
likely source of this bird?.I should imagine they are not common in
captivity. In any case I don't need it for my life list. But it's going on
my NSW list, my year list, and my list of birds seen from a moving vehicle
