Hi Margaret, Michael and others,
You may be thinking of Hollis Taylor. Ms Taylor is a very accomplished musician (plays real music) but she also did a PhD on the
song of the Australian Pied Butcherbird.
Some info about her can be seen at:
http://www.australianmusiccentre.com.au/artist/taylor-hollis
And her personal web-site is at http://www.hollistaylor.com/
Her name was mentioned in a the Thur 1st April 2010 edition of Bush Telegraph on ABC Radio National in connection with a story on
Ruined Pianos. The story can be heard on-line at
http://www.abc.net.au/rn/bushtelegraph/ look for the programme titled "Ruined pianos
in the outback" for 1st April 2010.
If you listen to the recording you will get the context of why her name was mentioned. It happens around or just after half-way
through the story.
There is nothing really mentioned about the actually butcherbird vocalising but her name may be a starting point for any further
searching on the subject you may wish to do.
Cheers
