Hi David,
There is the odd Emu (Emoo) about the place, as you say, mostly 'retirees' from
various farming ventures. There are lots of feral Turkeys on King and Flinders
Islands, and the odd feral Peafowl and Pheasants in places on mainland Tas. I
hadn't come across Turkeys in that situation, though. Are you sure they
couldn't have belonged to a farm somewhere nearby?
