I was talking to two young European tourists on the Freycinet Peninsula
last week when one mentioned that she had seen an 'emoo' on the Coles Bay
Road and showed me a photograph of it.
We drove along Coles Bay Road later that day and, sure enough, there was a
lone emu wandering through the farmland on the east side of the road. I
assume this bird is an escapee or retiree from the emu farm near Swansea.
There was also a flock of very free ranging Wild Turkeys foraging along the
road reserve in the same area.
