Hi Colin and Phil,
Have definitely heard them call when being 'mobbed' (similar to a
Pallid) but never the "hoop-hoop" call is they do in Asia.

Hi Phil
You raise an interesting issue, regarding the Oriental v Himalyan -
not
sure if its tongue in cheek or not! However I would be interested to
hear from anyone who has tried playback to Oriental in Australia. If
they don't breed here would they respond?
We have tried, but have not been in a good position to expect a
response
- i.e. the bird had flown by and was probably not within hearing of
our
attempt. I don't actually have a copy of a Himalyan Cuckoo... yet....
but would ask the same question.
Anyone out there have any experience in calling in Oriental Cuckoos in
Australia?
