Oriental Cuckoo 1 by Mareeba TAFE, Tinaroo Creek road, wish I'd thought to try and play tape to get a vocal response to check whether Oriental or Himalayan Cuckoo! Black-faced Monarch and Dollarbird (en route to New Guinea) along Black Mt Road, Kuranda White Pygmy Goose 1 f.Hastie's Swamp, my fist local record for at least 18 months, as this species seems to have vanished from all its old haunts locally. Red-necked Crake at Cassowary House, Kuranda, with 2 (prob. 4) juvs. last week
Spotted Harrier 1 ad Picnic Crossing Road near Atherton

Great Knot c. 90 Cairns Esplanade, many almost in full summer dress, a spectacular sight Lesser Sand Plover 10, outnumbered Greater for once, and several in breeding dress look to be race mongolus, with the greyish mottling on the flanks Australian Swiftlet c. 150 heading south along the sea front, no doubt following storm activity.

Jun Matsui was out at Michaelmas Cay today with "Seastar" and saw Red- footed Booby and a leucistic Brown Noddy, almost entirely whitish with a few brown blotches, would be quite a shock if it flew past at any distance!

Good Birding
