Could they have been preparing to roost for the night? We see this behaviour in Melbourne as well, and a noisy affair it is indeed!

Birders,
tonight (7:30pm) I saw a flock of what must have been about 500 rainbow
lorrikeets in the park to the south of strathfield railway station (Sydney).
They appeared to be feeding on the street trees (liquid ambers etc.). Can
anyone comment on if this is a regular occurence in this location or others?
I have never seen some many of this species in one location prior to this.
