I'ld agree with that, I reckon Russell's questioning of the Alan's request was 
the right thing to do. I don't feel that you have anything to apologise for, 
especially considering the example given. The points you raised were legitimate 
and needed answering.

I hope that Alan doesn't take this the wrong way and comes to the understanding 
that the birds interests were foremost at hand. I also hope that Alan does have 
a good time in Aus whilst birding, and that he gets some great photos of our 
birds whilst he's here. (Alan, if you are in Sydney and want a guide, I'll be 
happy to show you some places if I am available).
