Terry,

For other curiosities in nomenclature, have a look at http://www.curioustaxonomy.net/ There are some strange minds in the world of taxonomy it would seem, why else would you call an Earwig Labia minor or a clam Venus mercienaria, let alone a trilobite Han solo.
