The sadly deceased bird depicted http://picasaweb.google.com.au/andrewt.personal/MysteryBird is a young Red-tailed Tropicbird. It was photographed at Old Gulch on Lord Howe Island. It took me a while to twig to its identity even knowing they were breeding nearby. And without knowing the location I wouldn't have picked it as a Tropicbird. But Nikolas Haas, Peter Shute, Philip Griffin, Chris Corben, Mark Clayton, Tom Wilson, Lawrie Conole all did - apologies if I missed anyone. Andrew |
