A young B-n Stork, taken into care in Sydney, was released in early 2009 at
the Shortland Wetlands Centre, which is almost next door to Ash Island.
There were a few sightings of it in the following month or so, then a gap -
but now there have been 3-4 sightings of B-n Stork from Ash Island in the
past few months. Access to Ash Island has been restricted for >6 months, due
to engineering works, otherwise there perhaps might have been more reports
of the bird there this summer.
I'm not sure if these recent sightings are related to the prior release of
the young bird.

Subject: Black-necked (Satin) Stork at Ash Island, NSW
Greg Little reported observing a Black-necked Stork at Ash Island on
20.01.10. It was apparently a young bird. This is an interesting sighting
as Stork sightings in the Lower Hunter have been scarce over the past couple
of years. I banded two nestling Storks at Bulahdelah in October so if
anyone else sees this bird could they check whether it is carrying colour
bands, one on each tibia (above the leg joint). It is important to note
which colour is on which leg.
