Just got back from Uluru and Watarrka and the Red Centre is teeming with
bird life and life of every sort at the moment. Painted Finches aplenty at
King's Canyon and Uluru is awash with very large flocks of Diamond Dove.
Crimson Chats are more abundant than I have ever seen and Spinifexbirds are
flushing from old growth grass all down the Lasseter Hwy. There are big
flocks of Major-Mitchell Cockatoos, Red-tailed Black Cockatoos, Cockatiels
and Budgies. It's surely only a matter of time before the Letter-winged
Kites are back.
I'm heading down to Birthday Creek, Hugh Gorge and Boggy Hole today so I'll
send more reports after that but if anyone was considering a trip to The
Centre now is definitely the time.
Chris Watson, Alice Springs.
