I had a phone call from my Mum this evening to report that she and other walkers had seen a California Quail on the sealed walking track on the western edge of Seaford Wetlands. I queried the identification (they're not birdwatchers), but I can't think of anything else that
fits the description: a large quail with a "top knot" and black face.

"I'm guessing here but it was probably near Mona or Catron Street. Looking towards the wetlands, there were some old gum trees with some logs on the ground with I think a bit of a drain, maybe wrong. It was this side of the fence around the wetlands, the wetlands side
of the bitumen track. "
