George

That suggests that there is a local source and birds are escaping or are
released from an aviary in the area on a fairly regular basis.

Hi all

Following a request for records by Martin O'Brien (to bolster the Victorian
Atlas of Victorian Wildlife), I dug out a list of records (made by myself
or Claire Appleby) of Barbary Doves from the Gray Street, Williamstown
location. The earliest records that we have are in September 2003, of 2
adults and 1 juvenile. Ominously, the next record from March 2004 was of 1
adult and another juvenile.

As Rohan found, the birds could be missed on some visits (even soon after
"good" numbers being reported), so they either move around or are able to
bounce back from reduction in numbers.

Cheers

George
