Mike,
Good stuff, I'll let you know if its still there on Monday afternoon
and we're going to North Keeling on Wed. A couple of spots still available on
the NK trip. I'm not suprised the Javan Pond is still there.
Cheers
Richard

Peter Barrand responded to my request for information on their sightings with
the news that they'd found an adult and immature Common Moorhen on Bechat Besar
Swamp on West Island, Cocos. On the phone he said that the white flank stripe
on the adult (absent in Dusky Moorhen) was very prominent. In the brief phone
call I didn't have a chance to ask about leg colour, green rather than red in
that species. Both species occur in Wallacea, but only the Common occurs west
of there and the Dusky only to the east and south. Neither species has been
seen on Cocos previously.
He also reported the presence of 7 Saunders's Terns, a Javan Pond Heron, 3 Grey
Wagtails, 20 Barn Swallows and 1 Asian form of Dollarbird.
