We spent a memorable few days over the weekend based at Nallan Station near
Cue between Mr Magnet and Meekatharra in WA. Highlights were:
Little Curlew, Long-toed Stint, Wood Sandpiper, Black-tailed native Hens (4
), Black-breasted Buzzards (2), Black kite, Diamond Doves (2), numerous
Red-kneed Dotterels + other waterbirds at Lake Nallan on Oct 24 and 25. If
you are anywhere in the vicinity check it out!
Bourke's Parrots (many on road between Payne's Find and Warne River on 23rd,
pair came to a trough sitting on 24th at Nallan Station).
Banded Whitefaces at FOC's site west of Cue on 24th
Gull-billed Tern flying over Payne's Find on 26th
Female Bustard on road about 10 Km due south from Payne's Find on 26th (we
saw a Bustard near Payne's Find on our previous visit there a few years
ago.)
Lots of Crimson Chats, Budgies, White-winged Trillers and Masked
Wood-swallows in mixed flocks at various locations.
Great views looking down on a Little Wood-swallow at a breakaway 60 km NE of
Cue. What a contrast between dark slaty wings and more chocolate coloured
body.
Chestnut-breasted Quailthrushes including one male singing from a tree and a
female we pished almost to our feet.
Chiming Wedgebills at a couple of locations (FOC's banded Whiteface site and
at Nallan Station).
Lots of Cockatiels.
Sorting Slaty-backed Thornbills from Chestnut-rumps
Ditto for Little and Torresian Crows
Reaquainting with Crested Bellbirds and Redthroats.
We travelled back yesterday in constant rain from about Mount Gibson to
Perth. Should be well worth checking out over the next few weeks. We found
11 Inland Dotterels last year between Wubin and Mt Gibson.
Am preparing an annotated species list to add to Nallan Stations excellent
