The bush in Central Australia is way too dry for Spotted Turtle Dove, unlike
the ancestors of Barbary Dove they are not an arid zone species which is why
they are dependant on and restricted to the gardens in Alice.

When I lived in alice springs there were campaigns relating to killing
spotted turtle doves, which are a common garden bird there. I could
never see the point, as I never saw one in the bush, even a very short
distance from Alice Springs.
