Hi all
suffering from a heavy cold, but not wanting to waste a great day in Sydney,
I visited the above site this morning for a short walk. It also has a
reasonable playground for my kids in a clearing where I could sit quietly (well apart from the sneezing anyway) and watch the birds. As a bonus, (although I was not aware of this at the time I decided to go there) a pair of Glossy Blacks reported on BirdlineNSW by B Ayres on 22 Aug was still present (at NW end of Browns Track near Lamberts Clearing) feeding mostly quietly and not fussed by us. There was the usual chomping of casuarina nuts, but occasionally the male would make a quiet screeching call. Watched the pair for about 10 mins before going back to the visitor centre and
caught up with some US birders (who had seen the birdline report) and
directed them to the pair.
Also several Golden Whistlers singing and calling well around Lamberts
clearing and various honeyeaters all very active.
Also saw a large goanna and a Diamond Python (my attention drawn to both by
alarm calls from honeyeaters).
Cheers
Tom Wilson
