I was doing a bit of plane spotting at the airport this morning when a disturbance of birds in a nearby tree flushed a tyto out into the open. It was a very handsome snowy breasted chap with dark wing coverts. It copped some heavy duty harassment from the magpies and butcherbirds (one was pulling it's wing feathers) but eventually things quietened down. With a bit of luck, it will remain in place in one of the exotic trees near the parking area for plane spotters if any local birders want to have a gekko.

Regards, Laurie.
