Hi All
While at Cairns recently I had an excellant morning out with Del Richards of
Fine Feather tours.
Del took myself and a pleasant couple from NZ around a number of sites in Port
Douglas and various other sites in areas both down on the coastal flats and up
in the heights around Julatten.
I don't have a total of the species seen as I was only noting down birds that I
had not already seen on the trip but it was a good number.
Del found us a pair of Double-eyed Fig-Parrots in Port Douglas and other
highlights for me in the lowlands were Horsfield's Bronze-Cuckoo,
Chestnut-breasted Mannikin and a Black-necked Stork flying over.
Up in the hills highlights for me were many Spectacled Monarch, Sunbird, Brown
Cuckoo-Dove and terrific views of a Chestnut-breasted Cuckoo.
I then spent the afternoon following up leads given to me by Del and saw a
Cassowary while unsuccessfully looking for Shining-bronze Cuckoos and B F
Parrot-Finches at Mt Lewis. Another lead of Del's did get me the Parrot-Finches
and I had great views of several males and females/juvs.
The day yielded 7 new species for me. It was a great day.
Bob
