It has been reported that Eastern Ospreys have been nesting for many years
at St Georges Basin, on the Shoalhaven. North (1912) quoted a report of a
pair nesting in a lofty gum tree at St Georges Basin. As there were no
confirmed reports of Ospreys ever nesting in New South Wales south of Lake
Macquarie I suspected that the St Georges Basin report may have referred to
a nest of the White-bellied Sea-Eagle. I was told recently that Ospey were
nesting there in the 1970s and therefore the North record may have been a
good one.
Does anyone have confirmed records of Ospreys nesting at St Georges Basin in the past? Photos would be great!! Greg Clancy Coutts Crossing NSW |
