Very true about the volunteers. The mainstay for FESWI for years has been
Les Williams, a former local councillor who has led many, many school tours,
weed removal & tree-planting working bees, etc., as well as tirelessly
lobbying with state & local government & Melbourne Water. But we've just
been advised in the newsletter that he's resigning as President due to ill
health. The aging profile of many of our grass-roots conservation groups is
a concern to me.
For anyone interested, it only costs $10 for individuals & $15 for a 12-month family membership to FESWI. Even if you don't live in the area you can get on the newsletter mailing list (including Mike Carter's monthly bird list), & make a small contribution to protecting a Ramsar wetland: http://home.vicnet.net.au/~phillip/m26.htm http://home.vicnet.net.au/~phillip/m26m_app.htm - application form...
