My pair of Rufous Whistler decided not to migrate again this year, this is the 5th year in a row they have preferred to stay in the beautiful Hawkesbury. While walking through Banjo Patterson Park, Gladesville (along the Parramatta River, Sydney) late yesterday afternoon/early evening, the local population of Australasian Figbirds was very noisy and active. Male and female figbirds were chasing each other through the trees, one male flew to a perch high up in a tall tree, launched into full song that went on for at least 10 minutes, and was obviously trying to attract a mate. Therefore, it looks like the local figbird population could start nesting soon, eventhough it is still July.Although still cold at night and early morning, Sydney's had some nice, sunny weather the last few days, the days are getting longer and there's plenty of fruiting plants (mostly exotic species) along the river banks - all potentially triggering the breeding response. Has anyone else noticed other birds (figbirds or other species) getting ready to breed?Stephen Ambrose Ryde, NSW =============================== www.birding-aus.org birding-aus.blogspot.comTo unsubscribe from this mailing list, send the message: unsubscribe (in the body of the message, with no Subject line)to: =============================== =============================== www.birding-aus.org birding-aus.blogspot.comTo unsubscribe from this mailing list, send the message: unsubscribe (in the body of the message, with no Subject line) to: =============================== |
