Thanks for that. Interestingly, the first item on the list shown there appears
to be THE book I just bought via Amazon, for the same price, but Amazon charged
$2 less for delivery. Hopefully the book will take some of the mystery out of
wader id.
Can anyone tell me how HANZAB compares to this book? I've never seen the
volume (3?) with the waders in it.

For some reason there is always a very large variance in the prices of books
across the internet, even amongst the new editions. I sometimes wonder if
it has something to do with local availability and how exotic the title
might be perceived in some parts of the world (HANZAB is a good example). I
needed to buy a number of shorebird books while studying at University so I
wasn't able to afford new versions of all the books I selected. As a
consequence my copy of "Shorebirds and Identification Guide" was a
second-hand item in excellent condition. You will find that in your searches
for a particular title that there will be various quality options from
different vendors and it is prudent to go with those that give the clearest
descriptions. I have looked on Amazon for a range of new and used options
for my textbooks at times, but found the best place to search for new and
used books was the following URL:
http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?sts=t&tn=Shorebirds+and+Identification+Guide&x=10&y=9
The descriptions at this site give a number of standard descriptions for
easy comparison between the various offerings and a bookseller rating to
give you some idea of the quality of service you can expect. The best
attribute of the site is that it puts you in touch with thousands of
second-hand booksellers worldwide and places excellent volumes within the
reach of those of us who might not otherwise be able to afford them.
Happy book hunting
