David,

While I agree with Paul that Craig Robson's book, "New Holland Field
Guide to the Birds of South-east Asia", is a great book, because it does not
give distribution maps & has the distribution and other details only in the
back, it can be difficult to use & sort out some species. While not in the
same class, Morten Strange's book, 'A Photographic Guide to the Birds of
South-East Asia' is a quick way to identify most species to be found in
Singapore. Also it is much cheaper than Robson's book and fairly easy to
obtain - especially in Singapore. I hope that Robson will soon produce a
book for Malaysia/Singapore etc that is like his outstanding book, 'Birds of
Thailand'. In it he has distribution maps, aids & notes like most world
Field Guides now have.

All the best,

Chris Coleborn
