Hi Laurie et al
We (Rob D, Stu W & myself) visited the Lockyer Valley on Saturday (13th)
as it happens. We, too, usually have our lunch at Lake Apex and decided
to do so again, despite the Stateline report on Friday night.
I didn't see the report itself but suggest it MAY be a little
exaggerated. Yes, trees have been cut down on one of the islands - the
one furthest from the hide and closest to the main road. The island
where the Freckled Duck resided last year, the one closest to the hide,
remains as it was - for now, anyway. The hide, shelter and the rest of
the lake remain the same. The coffee shop has gone, replaced with a very
modernistic 'cultural centre'. It's still appalling behaviour and to be
condemned - possibly not completed unexpected considering the probable
make up of the council and its general devastation of the environment in
most parts of the area - if not deliberate they are at least guilty of
complete negligence and lack of consideration for anything 'wild'.
There were a number of Ibises standing around forlornly on the downed
trees, hopefully this is the extent of the proposed damage, there was no
advice available on site on Saturday to indicate otherwise.
Sadly,
Colin
