Thanks to all who answered my note about the Darters. It seems that
river temperature and thus fish behaviour may have something to do with
the increase in numbers. It was certainly quite cool there in the
mornings.  Perhaps proximity to the lock, and thus again fish behaviour,
also had something to do with it.
