Yeah, well, Bob Beale's complaint can be used for all the field guides for any country or region. I believe that it is a plot cooked up by field guide authors and publishers, to never publish a completely accurate and easy to use guide. This results in the poor birder having to buy and cart around multiple guides or even handbooks, with resulting back problems and excess baggage charges. I have seen birders in Borneo lugging around Bertram Smythies' "Birds of Borneo" and even Wells'"Birds of the Thai-Malay Peninsula". I think "Handbook of the Birds of the World" would be too much of a challenge for even the most fastidious birder. Unless they travelled by ship.

Cheers,

Carl Clifford

This Bob Beale doesn't appear to post on this list though.
