Hi all
a shortish seawatch this morning (Sunday 24 May, 6:45-8:15 am) at Long Reef
produced a single adult Brown Booby in with lots of Gannets passing south.
I got a great view of the chocolate brown head and the hood with the
contrasting pale bill and the clean break to the white breast, and then the
brown back as it flew off southwards, which ruled out juvenile gannet.
There was also 1 Shy Albatross close in, plus many Black Browed and 1 or 2
identifiable Yellow Nosed and 1 possible Wanderer (a long way out).
The whole rock platform except for the very tip was inundated with the very
high tide and surging water, but at the end there was a "loaf" comprising
Crested and White Fronted terns. Many of the smaller waders (RN Stints,
Turnstones) had come off the rocks, presumably due to the rough conditions,
and were on the north end of Long Reef Beach, but were not having a very
restful time due to walkers, joggers etc.
Also a Peregrine passed northwards.
Cheers
Tom Wilson
