A beautiful autumn morning in the hills nw of Sydney yesterday 17 May.
2 female Painted Button-quail and wonderful, unexpected views of a close
up Koala were seen on a track off Comleroy Road, Kurmond. Koala
sightings seem to be infrequent in this area, if reports in the local
press are to be believed... Both this and the quail were first local
sightings for me (although there is good habitat for the quail much is
on private land). The many Yellow-faced Honeyeaters did not appear to be
on the move today - many were feeding in dry ridge forest undergrowth,
where White-eareds and E Spinebills were also in good numbers - but
White-napeds are still moving, mostly north, and in much larger numbers
than last week - groups up to 25 or so in number. A few Brown-headed
Honeyeaters were seen with the White-napeds. Other interesting sightings
included 4 Musk Lorikeets, a flock of Varied Sitellas, and a Dusky
Woodswallow.
Gang Gang Cockatoos are still present in the area mostly a party of 4
visiting the garden most days.
