sadly there are not standards in NSW, nor any other state in Australia that
I am aware of.
Please don't let the bird go, no matter how tempting it's not in their
interests or the interests of the local flocks.
Please DO report the birds to the RSPCA or who ever enforces anti-cruelty
legislation in your state. It's not an issue that is on their radar at all
as far as I can tell. People making reports will increase their
consciousness and, in conjunction with other actions, eventually standards
and legislation will have to be written and then enforced.

I agree with Peter Fuller's comments on this, and I don't think its just
nesting locations that we should avoid disclosing.
>From my observations there has been a dramatic decline in numbers of Pink
Cockatoos in north-west Victoria, an area which I visit regularly. These
areas would be the closest to a major international airport for this
species, and some other parrot species aswell. I am careful not to report
any significant numbers of Pink Cockatoos on the internet, as this is
obviously an indication of a breeding area. I have no doubt there are
plenty of unscrupulous people out there ready to make a quick buck from our
native wildlife, this includes reptiles aswell as birds. In the time I
have lived in northern Victoria I have come across more than one person who
has hinted at such activities.
The internet is a wonderful resource for birders and criminals alike.
Whilst on the subject of cage birds and collectors, can anyone tell me what
are the legal requirements for cage size for keeping birds. I have seen too
many Galahs and Cockatoos in little cages. This is obvious cruelty and I've
been tempted to risk prosecution !, by letting birds free.
