I often heard an unanswered phone ringing, adjacent to a reveg works depot in inner Melbourne. I used to wonder why the phone was ignored by everyone until I realised it was a pet parrot imitating the call. Our family cockatoo barks like one of our dogs used to and does the Magpie 'meeeuw' call since several young Magpies my brother was rehabilitating were caged near the cockatoo - decades ago. wm |
