Viewing birds live online seems to be a developing hobby - 
http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2009/mar/21/birdwatching-online

I wonder if birders with an incurable collector's addiction will start keeping a log of species they see live online ...

I noted the comment: "The idea is to spread the message of the marvellous things we have here to protect them and stimulate tourism in observing nature." I'm not sure that virtual twitchers would be motivated to leave their desks to see the birds in the raw.
