There are three choices to get to Boat Harbour.
Troy Mutton has described in great detail the walk in. It is a pleasant
walk but a bit tedious if you are carrying significant quantities of
optics.
You can drive to the beach and park within 100 metres of the target
bird. Sure it costs $19 but it’s not a great cost in the scheme of
things. You need a 4WD but any sort of all WD drive vehicle like a
Subaru will be fine. The sand is like concrete. The drive out up the
dune might be a little tricky but no big deal.
The 3rd option for a 2WD is to go into the Boat Harbour Park but park in
the parking area near the shacks. This will still cost $19 but you only
have to walk a couple of hundred metres. The park is open 7 days a week
but they lock the gates at 5.15 pm.
A huge thanks to Tun Pin for firstly finding the bird but then
persevering with the ID. The bird shows all the features of an AGP which
are really clear when you see it compared with the PGPs.
Best Regards
Allan Benson
