I had a week birding on the Big Island about 8 years ago, and found A
Pocket Guide to Hawai'i's Birds (Pratt HD, Mutual Publications,
Honolulu) pretty useful. It would be a pretty good text for course. It
is pretty cheap, I paid USD 8.95 for it, so it wouldn't be a great
financial burden for the course participants. I would be happy to loan
it to you so you can check it out.
