I forgot to mention that it reminds me of back before we got wheely bins for
recycling here. We were originally given open crates to put our recycling in,
and European Wasps were always hanging around them looking for traces of food
and soft drink.
I'm sure they're still around, but I can't remember the last time I saw one.
So I'm wondering whether the years of of exposed recycling was instrumental in
their spread.

That makes me wonder whether the effort put into a campaign to make them cover
it would give better results than the effort put into catching and euthanasing
them.
Perhaps the occasional old mattress left in their skip at night would encourage
them to get one with a lid and lock it.

Hi Storm,
It would seem that the same does not apply to the young of Common Mynah.
Directly behind our house is a bakery/cake shop, which does not (refuses?) to
close their waste skip since new owners took over some 2 years ago.
Consequently the local population of CMs has blown out. I counted over 50 of
the vermin in my back yard this afternoon! A steady diet of bread, cakes and
old meat pies does not seem to have affected the reproductive ability of the
little swine and the health of the off- spring seems to be just great.
