It is with profound sadness that we have to inform you that our colleague
and friend Assoc Prof Richard Zann, his wife Eileen and daughter Eva died in
the bushfires at Kinglake on Saturday 7th Feb.

A memorial service for Richard, Eileen and Eva will be held in the Agora
Theatre (see map at at the
Bundoora campus of La Trobe University commencing at 2 pm on Friday
20thFeb. All who wish to honour them and support Richard's son Chris
extended family at this time are welcome and encouraged to attend. Please
allow time to walk from the car parks (1,2,3) to the theatre (10-15 mins).
The family requests that those attending dress in neat casual.

A separate funeral service will also be held at a date to be set at Evan's
Head on the northern NSW coast, where Richard and Eileen were married. All
are welcome.

A fund to support an academic prize or scholarship is being established by
La Trobe University in honour of Richard Zann's contribution to science.
Those wishing to contribute to this fund should go to the La Trobe
Foundation website for information on how to contribute (

Those contemplating sending flowers in memory of Richard are instead
encouraged by his extended family to contribute to the scholarship fund
mentioned above, or to make a donation to Birds Australia ( or call toll free 1300 730 075).
