Hi Folks,
A great morning's seawatch at Maroubra with Ray Gobbe, with a quite strong
southerly blowing. The notable highlight for us was a Streaked Shearwater
some 250m off the point. It was very long winged (and long tailed), light
brown upperwing , with white belly and large white/off-white underwing
patches, as well as smudgy/streaky head markings, flying similarly to
Wedge-Tailed sw but even more relaxed and leisurely.
There were many groups of Short-tailed SW, with about 1 in 50 being Sooty
SW, as well as many Wedge-tailed, predominantly going south. There were
small numbers of Fluttering and Huttons also.
Pomarine, Arctic and Long-Tailed Skua were also seen.
Tomorrow should see better even better conditions.
Cheers,
Graham Buchan
