Hi Everyone, I received an email through Birding Pals this morning which concerned me considerably. I have included his request and my reply to alert others and verify what I have told him is correct. It is what I understand to be right in Victoria at least. Dear Srdjan, Thank you for your enquiry about collecting bird feathers. In Australia, or at least Victoria, where I live, it is illegal to collect any part of a bird including feathers. All native birds in Australia are protected under the law. It is illegal to kill the birds, collect eggs, feathers or any other part of a bird unless you have a permit for scientific purposes. Therefore I will not send you any feathers and encourage you to not ask for them from anyone else in Australia, as it will encourage them to break the law. Yours sincerely Elizabeth Shaw Phillip Island Victoria Australia |
